WELDING TECHNOLOGY

Welding is a fabrication or sculptural process that joins materials usually metals or thermoplastics, by causing coalescence. This is often done by melting the workpieces and adding a filler material to form a pool of molten material (the weld pool) that cools to become a strong joint, with pressure sometimes used in conjunction with heat, or by itself, to produce the weld. This is in contrast with soldering and brazing, which involve melting a lower-melting-point material between the workpieces to form a bond between them, without melting the work pieces.

All the joining processes used in manufacturing, welding is the most widely used process as it produces strongest joints in metals and is permanent in nature. Welding uses heat and the use of pressure is optional. Welding has various types of joints namely, autogenous joints, heterogeneous joints, and homogenous joints for various application needs.

The objective of the program is to strengthen the competence & skill level of the participant in welding processes like SMAW, GTAW (TIG) and GMAW (MIG/MAG) processes. The course focuses on the classification of welding processes, abbreviation for processes, welding safety, welding arc, welding electrodes, parameters, welding positions, joints and symbols, welding passes, defects, advantages and disadvantages of the processes. This program will give a clear understanding of welding technology to the participants and also will help them to propel their career in the field of fabrication.
